THE CONSCIOUSNESS

As global citizens, JUST female wants to take part in preserving the environment and we take our environmental impact seriously.

The desire is to enhance the use more of sustainable materials in the collection over time and continuously participate in keeping even more in keeping our earth healthy and safe.

“Our current goal is to use as close to 100% sustainable materials in the production of our collections as possible every season - but it is a constant learning curve, and we can always do better.”
Penille Andersen – Creative Director

THE PRODUCT

In Autumn 2018 we started with our 'Sustainable Choice' options on the collections, and these options have become a bigger and bigger part of the JUST female collections ever since. A ‘Sustainable Choice’ style is made from minimum 50% environmentally friendly materials, such as organic cotton or recycled polyester. You can read much more on our materials below.

We strive to use recycled polyester on all garments in polyester quality, but unfortunately it’s not currently possible with special materials such as sequins, etc.

We use our 100% organic cotton tote bags with all-over logo artwork as giveaways starting summer 2019. They are very light, so perfect folded up to take along as an extra bag.

Our goal is to use min. 50% sustainable materials in our collections; all garments made from more sustainable materials are marked with SUSTAINABLE CHOICE.

Below you can see the kind of materials we use in our SUSTAINABLE CHOICE initiative

Organic cotton:
Traditional cotton takes an exorbitant amount of water and chemicals to be produced. Organic cotton is one of the alternatives to this harmful process and still creates a comfortable product. Organic cotton means that the crop is harvested without any toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, or genetically modified seeds. The process uses less water and emits less greenhouse gases. Organic cotton therefore has much lower environmental impact than traditional cotton.

Recycled polyester:
Our recycled polyester from plastic water bottles and breaks it down into fibers. This process uses nearly half the amount of energy that creating normal polyester does. The recycled fabric keeps the global need for drilling more petrol down and plastic out of our landfills and oceans. The plastic fibers can even be recycled many times over.

Lyocell:
Lyocell fabric is an amazing eco-friendly fabric that represents a milestone in the development of environmentally sustainable textiles. Lyocell is a natural, manmade fiber. Made with wood pulp from sustainable tree farms, Lyocell textiles are created through the use of nanotechnology in a closed-loop process that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. Furthermore, it is 100% biodegradable.

Cupro:
Cupro fabric is actually a cotton waste product. It is biodegradable as well as easily recycled, since it is made from 100% plant-based materials. Cupro is produced in a closed-loop process, same as Lyocell. This allows the chemicals used to be extracted afterwards and the water waste can easily be reused. Since it is a by-product of cotton, it dyes easily and therefore requires less dye.

Better cotton/BCI cotton:
By purchasing BCI-cotton you support not just the development of better cotton production methods but also the working conditions of the people behind. The Better Cotton Initiative or BCI-cotton is not organic cotton, however, is an initiative to make cotton production better for the people working in it. They do this by reducing the environmental impact of cotton production, improving the livelihoods and economic development in cotton-producing areas, improving their commitment to and flow of Better Cotton throughout the supply chain, and ensuring the credibility and sustainability of the Better Cotton Initiative.

Mohair:
Our mohair wool, the fleece from the Angora goat, is responsibly sourced from traceable animals and farms in South Africa with several globally recognized certifications for sustainability, CSR, animal welfare, and quality. Besides being a renewable resource unlike cotton, mohair is both produced with much less water consumption, and requires much less water to keep clean, as it needs less washing when used.

    WE CARE

At JUST female, one of the things we find very important is to help our planet for a brighter future. One of the ways to do so, is to secure and develop more forest, which naturally absorbs Co2. Therefore, JUST female have chosen to become a sponsor of the organization Plant et Træ, which literally means “Plant a Tree”.

When a JUST female customer buys a product with a WE CARE tag they help support the organization and contribute in having 1.000 trees planted throughout Denmark on an annual scale. The trees are planted with the help of school children with an extra focus on our customers of tomorrow, the young girls. By educating the women of tomorrow in understanding and respecting nature, we will hopefully help to ensure better consumers in the future that can make responsible choices even though they are fashion-conscious. A research into Danish consumption habits show that women in general have influence on 75-80% of all purchases made - from cars, housing, clothing, to groceries etc. We therefore find it essential to educate the female consumers of tomorrow of how to make sensible decisions for our planet, and we want to start in nature by physically planting trees.

    THE LABELS AND TAGS

All paper tags attached to a JUST female garment are made of FSC-certified paper (from wood that has been sourced in a more environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically viable manner), and all JUST female neck labels, care labels and seals will be made out of recycled polyester.

    THE PACKAGING

When you buy a JUST female garment though our website, the foil bag is made of factory-waste foil and is 80% recycled.

We are constantly striving to teach our suppliers about plastic overuse, so we ask them to save the extra bags when they send samples to the office for approval and correction.

Whenever possible, our products will be shipped in biodegradable bags, and we do our utmost to ship by sea when we produce in the Far East.
